Marketing Experiments Uncover Gap Between Intuitive Incentive Effectiveness | 04.18.08
From MarketingExperiments.com:

Case Study 1
We conducted a 22-day test for a computer products retailer to determine the difference between the perceived value of two quality incentives. An email capture pop-up offered a sweepstakes entry form. The "prize" was either a cordless keyboard and mouse or a portable MP3 player. The keyboard and mouse outperformed the MP3 player and increased email capture by 319% (5.71% vs. 1.79%). The keyboard and mouse incentive had a higher Perceived Value.

Case Study 2
We performed a 37-day A/B/C split test for a financial research company with the goal being to increase conversion by finding the ideal incentive. The Control's incentive was a free New York Times best-selling book: Freakonomics. On Treatment 1 the incentive was a free investment research kit. In the third case, the incentive was both. The best?seller outperformed the investment research kit by 81%, and outperformed the combined incentives by 58%.

If one incentive is good, why wouldn't two be better? Read the study "Finding the Ideal Incentive" for more details

On February 3rd, the loudest, most critical, and most enthusiastic members of the "Hey! Nielsen" community will participate in Nielsen's first-ever Super Bowl ad review panel.

As a beta member of the ratings-fan community, I was invited to join.

This panel of critics will rate the ads live. The reviews will be shared with curious (dare we say "anxious"?) advertisers and Nielsen customers to help them understand whether their ads are fumbling or scoring. At $2.8 million for thirty seconds, you'd probably want to know too!
